And I was anxiously awaiting commentary regarding Acts 1:24-26

"24 Then they prayed and said, ‘Lord, you know everyone’s heart. Show us which one of these two you have chosen
25 to take the place* in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place.’
26 And they cast lots for them, and the lot fell on Matthias; and he was added to the eleven apostles."

I always wondered about the eleven praying for guidance, but then resorting to casting lots. Did they think God tilted the dice towards Matthias?

I remember that Einstein once said, "God does not play dice with the universe."

I also wonder if we should use this method when selecting our Bishops.

I've wondered about this too, UP.

I was on our diocese's search committee to nominate a slate for our bishop's election. We settled on four qualified candidates.

With some levity, but also some awe, we asked at our last meeting whether it might be more faithful and efficient to cast lots rather than go through the complicated process of a special election Convention.

There is a big part of me that would have preferred the lots.
